Birhore

birhor

Birhore is the smallest known primitive tribe of Jharkhand. It is a nomadic species which can be found in small groups, by living in forests through tradition, collecting trees, roots, fruits and flowers and collecting their livelihood.

"BIR" means the meaning of the forest and the "horse" (man). Hence it is known only by name that they are "people of the forest". In Burundi, "Birhor" means a woodcutter (woodcutter). They live quiet, secluded lives in mountains and forests. The attention of the British administrators was first noticed in the middle of the 19th century, in which Dalton, Henry Paddington, Dapri, Forbes, Hunter, Driver, are among the first.
