Baga tribe is probably one of the lesser known tribes. The word baga is also used in the tribal communities of Khwarra, for the priest-priest or knowledge-maker. Pooja and religious rituals are called bags. Rijale, while describing Bagga as an Oja-Pujaari, told this to the Dhanu Gotra or branch of Jharkhand. Dr. Alvin also described Bagga as a priest of Ojha, Sayna, Magician and Khwar caste in his description. Russell is of the belief that the seeds of Baga Madhya Pradesh are a branch of the tribe. Some scholars discard Baga as Gandel. But Bagga is clearly different from Gond and they can be kept in the collateral group.
